H.S.N. - Again?
How these old masters keep popping up? The Hysterical Society of Nottingham never ceases to amaze me in its diligent searches for previous instances of the appearances of Pickle and/or Pearl. This previous instance, a painting by Pieter de Hooch (I'm not making this up) called simply "Interior" is another example. I think the young person on the right of the picture, maybe a daughter or servant, has been forbidden to look at Pickle as being too salacious or lascivious (at my age, I have no idea what that means either). You, my dear readers, must admit that even if you get a big yawn from these quiet, domesticated travellers you are getting a free dose of "Culture". Here is another example of 'culture' -
LITTLE FLY upon the rug/ You must think that I'm a mug/ Even though the rug is shag/ I'll soon have you in the bag!
