The Gondoliers
A long time ago, a team called Gilbert and Sullivan (note:- When the 'guide' moved into this house with his second wife, the street was called Gilbert Avenue. When my wife wanted to give the house a name (a la British tradition), I suggested 'And Sullivan', but it was not to be), wrote an operetta called "The Gondoliers". What, you may ask, has this to do with Pickle and Pearl. Nothing much. Except that in those days the 'guide' was involved in a musical group which was 'putting on' the same aforementioned show. Pickle was around, if you remember, he was able to appear and disappear in a flash and during rehearsals he appeared. Luckily a publicity shot for a local rag captured the moment for posterity.
