William Tell
Pickle was very much aware that the national hero of Switzerland is William Tell. The statue shown here stands in front of the 19th century town hall in Altdorf. William Tell is to the Swiss what Robin Hood is to the English and in some strange way neither of them was real. You will notice that the original statue was cast with Pickle (or an ancestor) on the head of W. Tell's son. However, I have it on good authority that Pickle realised that if he stayed there he would end up in the soup so he 'bottled out' and an apple had to used instead, so rather than onion soup, apple pie was made, and Pickle lived to fly another day.
