Our "Dad's Army"
"Well", asked the guide, "did you enjoy your trip around the world, and did you learn anything useful?". "I must now send a report to my superiors in Ascalonia" said Pickle, "but it must be top secret so I cannot divulge its contents because even I do not know what it will say until I have written it". "Before you do, take a look at the picture. I can't tell you what it is because it is top secret". I can tell the readers that it is a picture of members of the Home Guard in the last war, It was originally called the L.D.V. (Local Defence Volunteers) bearing arms of pitchforks and broom handles and lots of determination, but was later issued uniforms and rifles and promoted to 'Home Guard'. but I (the 'guide') was in India with the R.A.F at the time and that is my (and my sister and brother's) Dad (Navy, 1914 World War) being inspected by an Air Vice-Marshall in the north of England.
