Pickle and Pearl

A very enjoyable, entertaining selection of the adventures of two onions! Our thanks go out to Walter, who has graciously volunteered to keep us up to date on these two. On this blog, the most recent post is at the top!

Peter the Great

The picture above is of Peter the Great, he of the cracked face. Of course, his face wasn't cracked when he was alive but this mosaic was done by a noted scientist, writer and artist called Lomonosov about thirty years after his death (not Lomonosov's but Peter's) which is why his face is cracked. Now Peter Mikhailov as he was known did not want to be recognized which was a bit silly as he stood nearly seven feet tall. You might say he stood out in a crowd. He was a very powerful man and he could take a heavy silver plate in his hands and roll it up like a parchment. Peter, Czar of all the Russias had a varied, adventurous and wonderful life and deserves a looking at.
LITTLE FLY upon the face/ You're there with every crack in place/ You're legs are caught within a crack/ Here comes de swatter - look out- thwack.
